Subject: Anyone been to Fourka?

Message:
We are off to Halkidiki in August (yeah - I know it is going to be hot!) 2 couples and 2 teenage daughters. We are staying in Fourka and I can't get any info on what the place is like. Can anyone help?

I have been to Fourka 3 years running. I am off again in September. August is very very hot, it is a small village lots of tavernas a lovely beech, with lots of water sports. There is only one club which only opens in July and August - there are quite a few bars with nightlife. Greek nights etc you will need to go out of the village. What apartment/hotel are you staying at. Your teenage daughters should go to the Ioli Bar in Fourka.

We are another gang heading for Fourka this August
(two couples, 5 kids aged 5 - 15,((two of the girls are 13 & 14)) staying in Themelis apartments. Do any of the bars have Sky TV? I know it's sad but we have an important football match against the forces of evil while we are away.
How far from village to beach? We have heard the village of Sivri is a nice walk for lunch? Yes?

We came back from Fourka today - it was brilliant - very hot - beautiful bay for swimming and walks over the hills. It is very much a Greek holiday resort, 80% Greek people, no more than 20% other nationalities. The evenings don't start until 10.00 at the earliest and the shops are open till 1.00. Very family orientated although there are a couple of clubs and music bars. There is a town nearby that is a £4 taxi fare away that is a really hot place for nightlife. Kallithea or something similar. Try to visit Faro restaurant in the square - very good. We were in a part of six, 4 adults and two teenage daughters. I suggest you pack an electric fan in your luggage - we were in an air conditioned apartment complex (the Elveriki - excellent place - lovely people run it) but most complexes don't have air conditioning and you need something to cool down with. There is a small electric shop in the village near to the local church which sell (hire) all sorts of fans in case you can't jam one in your luggage.
If you go on any trips with your tour company be prepare for long coach journeys to get to the starting point. The buses are mostly air conditioned but still get a bit sticky. Not sure if 'Waterland' was worth the trip, a few flumes, a decent wave pool and and a couple of deep pools but an awful lot of people and shade was a bit difficult to find!
Have a great time and let us know what you think of it.
