Review

The best restaurant in Polichrono; location is fantastic - right in the middle on the front, so has great views - amazing food, great staff - cheeky but extremely obliging and great entertainment; especially the resident parrott!!! :-)

The restaurant itself is beautiful - the most authentic taverna along the beach front - with overhanging vines, old fashioned signs, antiques displayed around the restaurant, dark wood and old brickwork. It also carries a lot of history; the old photos on the business cards and hanging on the walls feature the originial owner and dad of the current owners (brothers Nikos and Yannis), in his youth!

Flegra isn\'t the cheapest restaurant in town, but it\'s in the same region as most of the beach front tavernas, and the quality is far superior. My new favourite meal this year was off-menu; pork belly strips (no fat, beautifully seasoned and juicy) with chargrilled veggies - amazing! The souvlakis are excellent, as is the upside-down cheese, feta in ouzo and honey, BBQ octopus, beautiful salads, incredible fried sardines with a hollandaise sauce.... Nikos\' kleftiko is the best around and my husband won\'t forgive me if I don\'t mention his favourite; honey slow-roasted pork shank (called ankle-bone) - to die for! The seafood linguini I could live off; with mixed seafood, just prawns or even lobster - it\'s delicious, and any of the fish dishes... mmm.... I\'m making myself hungry just thinking about it!

We spend around 30 days each year in Polichrono, and Flegra is the place we return to time and time again. Go to Flegra at the start of your stay in Polichrono - if you leave it until the end you\'ll be kicking yourself!
